Whalley Farm Wedding | Jennifer & Shiv’s Interracial Wedding in Cheltenham

If I’m being honest… from the very first enquiry, I already knew this wedding was going to be something special.

Not just because of the venue (which is unreal, we’ll get into that), but because Jen and Shiv are those people. Warm, intentional, thoughtful, and the kind of couple you instantly feel comfortable around. The kind where you leave the call thinking “yeah… this is gonna be a good one.”

And I was right.

A Beautiful Interracial Wedding at Whalley Farm, Cheltenham

Jennifer and Shiv’s wedding at Whalley Farm in Whittington, Cheltenham was the perfect blend of cultures, personalities, and intentional details.

With 56 guests (keeping it intimate but still full of energy), the whole day felt deeply personal without ever feeling small.

This is exactly why I love shooting interracial weddings.
You’re not just documenting a wedding day… you’re documenting two cultures, two families, and two stories coming together in a way that’s completely unique to that couple.

And Jen and Shiv did that so effortlessly.

The Morning: Calm, Intentional, and Full of Anticipation

The day started early, with hair and makeup beginning around 8am.
There was this really calm, steady energy throughout the morning… no chaos, no stress, just people being present and excited.

By the time I arrived just before 1pm, everything was already coming together beautifully.

Jen was finishing hair and makeup, Shiv was getting suited up, and you could feel that quiet build-up before everything begins.

The First Look (And Why I’ll Always Rate Them)

Before the ceremony, Jen and Shiv had a private first look.

And honestly?
These are some of my favourite moments to capture.

No audience. No pressure. Just the two of you actually taking it in.

It set the tone for the whole day, intentional, emotional, and very them.

The Ceremony: Culture, Emotion, and So Much Meaning

Set against the backdrop of Whalley Farm’s outdoor space, their ceremony was a beautiful fusion of traditions.

From Shiv walking down with his parents, to Jen walking down the aisle with her mum to an acoustic version of Unchained Melody… every moment felt considered.

And then you had elements like:

  • The mandap setup with florals and marigolds
  • The spiritual phera
  • The koda kodi game
  • The garland exchange
  • Personal vows

This is what I mean when I say interracial weddings hit different.
It’s not just aesthetic. It’s storytelling at its core.

And as a photographer, capturing that accurately especially skin tones, cultural details, and emotion matters so much to me.

Confetti, Tambourines & Pure Chaos (The Good Kind)

After the ceremony, guests lined up with dried petal confetti and tambourines… and it was exactly as fun as it sounds.

This is your reminder that confetti doesn’t have to be serious or aesthetic-only.
It can be loud, chaotic, joyful and honestly, those are the best photos.

Drinks Reception Under the Stretch Tent

The drinks reception took place under a beautiful stretch tent on the lawn, with:

  • Champagne + non-alcoholic spritz options
  • Canapés like onion bhajis, Mediterranean skewers, and salt & pepper squid
  • A relaxed, social atmosphere

This part of the day is always where everything softens a bit.
Guests relax, conversations start flowing, and couples finally get a second to breathe.

We also used this time for family photos and couple portraits, making the most of the space around Whalley Farm.

The Details That Made This Wedding Stand Out

There were so many little details that made this day feel elevated but still personal:

  • Hanging marigolds throughout the barn
  • Burnt orange napkins and neutral linens
  • Personalised matchboxes and tote bags
  • A fabric seating plan and soft candlelight styling
  • A DIY mandap that transitioned into the reception space

It was giving intentional, warm, slightly editorial but still relaxed.

Exactly my vibe.

Speeches That Actually Meant Something

The speeches were a mix of family and friends from both sides:

  • Shiv’s welcome speech
  • His sister and brother speaking
  • Jen’s close family friends
  • Best friends from both sides

And you could really feel the love from both families.

Again… interracial weddings just hit differently here.
You’re seeing two worlds fully show up for the same couple.

Food, Cocktails & Pizza (The Dream Combo)

Dinner was a mix of options catering to everyone (including a big DELICIOUS veggie-heavy menu), followed by:

  • A cocktail and mocktail hour
  • Signature drinks like Jen’s Rhubarb Spritz and Shiv’s Old Fashioned
  • And then… a pizza van in the evening

Which, honestly, elite decision.

Golden Hour, Sparklers & That First Dance

As the evening rolled in, we had:

  • Sparklers just before sunset
  • A cocktail hour under the tent
  • And then their first dance to Can’t Help Falling in Love

After that, the dance floor opened… and yeah obvs it went OFF, also I have learnt that I can no longer get low like I used to which has humbled me.

Why I Love Shooting Interracial Weddings (And Why This One Meant So Much)

As a Black, queer wedding photographer, weddings like Jen and Shiv’s are exactly why I do what I do.

Because it’s not just about taking pretty photos.

It’s about:

  • Making sure every skin tone is represented accurately
  • Capturing cultural moments with care and understanding
  • Creating a space where couples feel fully seen

And with Jen and Shiv… it all just clicked.
