If you’re planning a winter wedding OR wedding at Alnwick Gardens in Northumberland (or even both!) then you’re gonna LOVE this wedding for inspiration!
Suz and Chris got married at The Treehouse in Alnwick Gardens, which is a super quirky Treehouse venue set in the gorgeous gardens of Alnwick Castle in Northumberland with stunning views, fairy lights and a big roaring fire. What a way to finish off the year, it was hands down one of the most fun weddings I’ve shot and even the weather played ball!
When Suz and Chris first got in touch with me I was SO excited to hear about their day, they were planning a super relaxed wedding with live music, amazing food and lots of fun! Suz and Chris are the loveliest couple ever and I could not wait to capture their day!
The excitement before the wedding
I started the day local to the venue where Suz and her friends and family were getting ready, it was really chilled morning with amazing music and lots of Prosecco and excited chatter, it was great because everyone was in such a good mood. Cuz wore a GORG beaded dress with a long train! While I was capturing the girls, Sam was over photographing the guys getting ready and having a couple of whiskeys before the ceremony, the guys were super relaxed and you could tell how excited Chris was and not to mention how great they all looked in their tuxes! Chris wore a dark green tux, which looked really incredible.
The ceremony
The wedding took place at The Treehouse in Alnwick Gardens, and was a really romantic intimate ceremony in front of the fire. They had a registrar led ceremony, with some beautiful readings which everyone loved. After the ceremony the newlyweds cheered their way back down the aisle together, and then they headed outside where they were greeted by all their guests waving ribbon wands! Anyone who was there can tell you how quickly I became obsessed with these wands and then carried one with me for the rest of the day!
The afternoon
The wedding reception took place over in the bar area, which they’d decorated with gorgeous flowers. Honestly, it was so stunning, I loved the little nods to UP throughout the wedding and all of the pearl details!
Despite it being November, it was a dry day and not too cloudy, which was perfect for us for photos especially after all of the snow the day before. While the guests enjoyed canapés and cocktails, we wandered around the venue doing some fun and creative portraits, we also managed to catch the most beautiful sunset too. I think one of my favourite photos from our couples session is the one of the two of them walking across the bridge just as the sun was setting. Check it out below!
During the reception everyone hung out outside and in the potting shed enjoying the live music which went down a storm. Afterwards, they had some wonderful speeches and for the food they had proper wedding grub which was delicious!
After the cake cutting we then whisked the two of them away to the light trail at Alnwick Gardens so that we could grab some fun portraits of the two of them! Which by the way I strongly recommend visiting the light trail if you get the chance, it was my second visit in two days and it does not disappoint! When we got back the DJ and the band were all set up and ready to go with the DJ played all the best songs to get everyone dancing and then the band taking over, one thing I will say is that Suz and Chris have INCREDIBLE music taste, it was an epic end to an epic day!
The day was so much fun from start to finish, you could really feel the love in the air. Here is Suz and Chris’ wedding story.
