A Summer Wedding at Matara Centre | Georgina & Hugh

If you’re planning a wedding at Matara Centre, you’ll love this relaxed Cotswolds wedding for inspiration!

There are some wedding venues that I always get excited about returning to.

The Matara Centre is one of them.

I’ve photographed weddings all over the UK, but if someone asked me to choose a favourite venue, Matara would be right at the top of the list. Every time I drive down that long tree-lined driveway I know it’s going to be a good day. The gardens are beautiful, the ceremony spaces are stunning and somehow the whole venue manages to feel peaceful while still being full of life.

So when Georgina and Hugh booked me to photograph their wedding there, I couldn’t wait.

Fast forward to the day itself and honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect. The sun shone from morning until night, the gardens were looking incredible and everywhere I looked there were people smiling.

It was one of those weddings that just felt happy.

Getting Ready at Matara Centre

One of the reasons I love the Matara Centre so much is that everyone can really settle into the day.

There are beautiful spaces to get ready, gorgeous gardens to wander through and so many little corners where guests can catch up before everything begins.

The morning was relaxed from the very beginning. There wasn’t any rushing around or unnecessary stress, just friends and family helping with final touches and soaking up the excitement of the day ahead.

One of my favourite details was Georgina’s flowers.

Rather than ordering them from a florist, her aunt had made them herself, which made them feel even more special. I always love seeing personal touches like this because they’re the things that make a wedding completely unique. Years from now, those flowers won’t just remind Georgina of her wedding day, they’ll remind her of the person who lovingly created them.

Those little details always mean the most.

A Beautiful Ceremony at the Matara Centre

If you’ve never been to the Matara Centre before, it’s one of those venues that somehow feels incredibly grand while still feeling intimate.

Surrounded by beautiful gardens and countryside, it’s the kind of place where people instantly relax.

As guests gathered for the ceremony, you could really feel the excitement building. There was such a lovely atmosphere throughout the entire day and it was obvious how excited everyone was to watch Georgina and Hugh finally get married.

One of my favourite things about photographing ceremonies isn’t actually the couple.

It’s everyone else.

The proud parents.

The emotional grandparents.

The best friends trying not to cry.

The little smiles exchanged across the room.

Those tiny moments often become the photographs people treasure the most because they’re the moments that can’t be recreated.

Throughout the ceremony, Georgina and Hugh were completely present with each other. Nothing felt forced or performative. They were simply enjoying the moment and you could see just how excited they were to finally be husband and wife.

Sunshine, Gardens and the Perfect Summer Wedding

If you’re hoping for sunshine on your wedding day, Georgina and Hugh definitely won the weather lottery.

The entire day was filled with warm sunshine, making the Matara Centre look even more magical than usual.

One of the biggest advantages of getting married here is how many beautiful places there are for photographs without ever needing to disappear from your guests for long.

We wandered through the gardens together, stealing a few quiet moments while everyone else enjoyed drinks outside in the sunshine.

One thing I always tell nearlyweds is that your photographs shouldn’t take over your wedding day.

They’re important, absolutely.

But so is spending time with your people.

Georgina and Hugh completely understood that balance. We got some beautiful portraits together before heading straight back to the celebrations.

Baby M… The Cutest Wedding Guest

Let’s be honest.

Every wedding has one guest who steals a little bit of the spotlight.

This time it was their gorgeous little one, Morgan who spent the entire day surrounded by people absolutely obsessed with him.

Watching family members take turns cuddling him, making him laugh and generally showering him with love was such a lovely reminder that weddings aren’t just about two people.

They’re about families growing.

They’re about new chapters beginning.

They’re about celebrating everything that brought you to this moment.

Some of my favourite photographs from the day weren’t even planned.

They were the little moments between Georgina, Hugh and their little family.

Those are the photographs I know they’ll treasure the most.

Speeches, Music and One of the Coolest First Dance Moments

The speeches were full of laughter, emotion and stories that made it very clear just how loved Georgina and Hugh are.

Throughout the day there was this overwhelming sense of community. Everywhere I looked there were hugs, conversations and people genuinely delighted to be celebrating together.

Then came one of my favourite moments of the evening.

After their first dance, Hugh casually wandered over to the stage… picked up an instrument… and joined the band.

Turns out being a musician definitely has its perks.

The guests absolutely loved it and it was one of those moments that felt so perfectly him. It wasn’t planned for anyone else’s benefit. It was simply another reflection of who he is and what he loves. Those are always my favourite wedding moments.

The unexpected ones.

The ones nobody else could recreate.

The ones that make your wedding unmistakably yours.

The Couple

One of the things I always say is that the best weddings aren’t necessarily the ones with the biggest budgets or the fanciest details. They’re the ones where you can feel how loved the couple are. That’s exactly what Georgina and Hugh’s wedding felt like. Throughout the entire day there was such a strong sense of warmth. Friends felt like family, family felt like best friends and everyone was genuinely invested in celebrating these two people.

As a wedding photographer, there are some weddings where you’re very aware you’re there to do a job. This wasn’t one of them. From the moment I arrived, everyone was so welcoming that it felt less like I’d turned up to photograph strangers and more like I’d been invited to celebrate alongside friends. Those are always my favourite weddings. When people feel comfortable. When they’re fully present. When they’re simply enjoying themselves.

That’s when the magic happens.

And that’s exactly what Georgina and Hugh created.

I left the Matara Centre with sore feet, a full memory card and a massive smile on my face.

Why the Matara Centre is One of My Favourite Wedding Venues

I might be slightly biased, but I genuinely think the Matara Centre is one of the best wedding venues in the UK.

The gardens are stunning, the ceremony spaces are beautiful and there are so many incredible locations for photographs throughout the grounds. It manages to feel relaxed, colourful and full of character all at the same time.

Whether you’re planning an intimate celebration or a bigger wedding, it’s one of those venues that simply works.

And selfishly… I’ll never be sad about another excuse to photograph a wedding there.
