IF YOU’RE PLANNING A FUN AND ALTERNATIVE WEDDING, YOU’LL FIND TONS OF INSPO FROM THIS WEDDING!
When Jessica and Rich first got in touch with me about their wedding, I was so FUCKING excited!! – they were planning the most fun and laid back wedding with an intimate ceremony and an amazing party for the reception. Jessica and Rich are the the most amazing people and I couldn’t wait to shoot their wedding!
Bride and groom prep
I started at Jessica’s parents house, where the bridal party were getting ready, and it was so chilled out, because everyone was in a good mood. Jessica wore a gorgeous lace dress with delicate beading, a crown from my fave The Lucky Sixpence AND white sparkly Dr Marten boots! (actual goals!)
My second photographer Oliver was with Rich and his half of the wedding party were getting ready at home, Rich wore a really smart tweed suit with a bowtie and Dr Marten loafers and they all looked amazing!
Jess and Rich both looked INCREDIBLE. After the wedding party finished getting ready, they headed off to the ceremony in style!
The ceremony
The wedding ceremony took place in the ballroom at the amazing Lysaght Institute in Newport and was a really sweet and intimate ceremony. The highlight of the ceremony had to be seeing Rich’s face when Jess walked down the aisle!! They had a beautiful reading from the registrars which brought pretty much everyone to tears, me included! After the ceremony they walked down the aisle together, and then the celebrations began.
After the ceremony
The wedding reception took place outside at Lysaght Institute. The Lysaght Institute is a great venue because it has a beautiful outdoors space as well as lots of natural light in the ballroom which makes it perfect for photos!
While the guests enjoyed canapes and cocktails, we took some portrait photos. My absolute fav photo from our couple’s session is easily the smoke bomb pictures outside the venue! Jess and I chatted about smoke bombs before the wedding day and obviously we went for black and white ones! Check it out below!
The reception
During the reception they played a game of Mr and Mrs instead of having traditional speeches, which went down a storm. If you’re not one for speeches, swapping them for a game is always a good idea!
For dinner they served a hog roast, which all the guests loved. Afterwards, Jess and Rich cut their wedding cake and the party got started! They also had confetti cannons on the dancefloor AND Jess danced for Rich to ‘Simply The Best’ by Tina Turner, which was a absolutely hilarious. The DJ was amazing and kept the party going all night, just before sunset we snuck out to do a couple more smoke bomb photos (and may have set the smoke alarms off in the process!)
Top tip for planning a wedding
These two are living proof that you shouldn’t be afraid to break traditions and do your wedding exactly how you want to! Jess and Rich are one of the sweetest couples I know and I’m so happy for them!
Also shoutout to the lovely wedding coordinators and staff at Lysaght’s as well as all Oliver for second shooting and all of the other incredible suppliers!!
